This auction is for a wonderful antique handwritten cookbook that originates from Jersey City, New Jersey. It is written in a ledger book that appears to be a promotional item from "The Shipper Commission Co." The first page has a brief description of the company for shareholders, the last few pages have the "By-Laws" of the company. The interior is just jam packed with both handwritten and clipped recipes of the day. The book is dated 1908 (it includes a daily calendar inside the front cover), there is another handwritten recipe dated 1920, there is one tucked in recipe that has a 1954 date on it. Obviously this one was handed down from generation to generation. While most of these little gems remain coveted with family members, only once in while will one find its way into the open market for consideration of your library. A wonderful slice of Americana that should not be missed.
