Here is an incredibly rare Andrew Oxley Pinchbeck flute headjoint for sale. Andrew Oxley has been a flute maker and craftsman since the mid 1970’s. He started crafting headjoints in 1976 and went on to making flutes, creating 52 flutes in gold and silver and over 1,500 headjoints. His clients include well known flautists such as William Bennett, Adrian Brett, Susan Milan, Atarah Ben-Tovim, Julie Wright and many more.

This particular headjoint was one of only 3 made and so is very rare. Pinchbeck is a form of brass, an alloy of copper and zinc mixed in proportions so that it closely resembles gold in appearance. It was invented in the early 18th century by Christopher Pinchbeck, a London clock- and watch-maker. Flutemakers Andrew Oxley and Mike Allen used this idea for flute headjoints and produced a limited amount to the market. The lip plate is Sterling silver with wings and the crown also.

This is a real one-off and offers a unique sound for a bespoke set-up. The tone is not as harsh as silver but not as dark as gold and the lip gives excellent resistance. It has superb projection and power with warmth.
