This is a signed George Wunder (b.1912-d.1987)pencil sketch of Sammy Davis Jr (I believe).

George Wunder was the artist for the comic strip Terry and the Pirates for 26 years from 1946 to 1973. He replaced the original artist.

It is done on a piece of stationary from the Hotel Ithaca, in New York. The stationary is marked: Private Office R.L. Causer. The original hotel was built in 1872 and was demolished in 1967.

The paper has some condition issues, none of which affect the image or signature. First, a 2.5" piece is missing at the bottom edge. There is some minor water damage marks in that corner as well. There is a 1.75" tear into the paper on the right edge about a quarter of the way up from the bottom. The lower left corner is wrinkled and there is a small hole in the paper amid the wrinkles. Finally, there is a 1/2" tear in the top edge, extending into the "I" in Ithaca.

I will ship this insured, lying flat between two strong pieces of cardboard inside a box.

I am fully convinced that this is a authentic George Wunder caricature and signature. The style of the illustration & his signature are like other sketches he's drawn and signed.

That said, I will allow a domestic buyer 10 business days to verify authenticity. If the sketch and signature are demonstrated to not be authentic, it may be returned to me for a full refund. Buyer would be responsible for insured & secure return shipping. I will not accept returns from an international buyer.
