Paradise Lost by John Milton, Vol I (1780, Printed by Didot, Paris) - VERY RARE. Exterior shows wear/soiling, expecially on the front board. It is difficult to tell what may be cleaned, but there are a few areas where the boards are damaged. The spine looks remarkable given the age, although the bottom near the front board has a half-inch "tear." The inside covers appear to have a few very faint pencil marks. No other marking/writing is visible anywhere. There is some moderate discoloration on the 2nd page (see image), along with the last two pages, and the page opposite the rear inside cover has one small closed tear. Slight, even tanning throughout, but surprisingly little/no foxing. Binding feels tight, with no cracked hinges. Overall, this is a structurally fantastic copy for being 240 years old.
