This truly beautiful solid 9-carat gold ladies watch carries the import hallmark for Birmingham 1925.

It was made by the Visible Watch Co of Les Breuleux in Switzerland, a business run by the three Bouverat brothers, Achille, Alphonse & Louis.  A fourth brother came over to the UK where he set up shop in Birmingham and sold the watches sent over by his family.

It has a high-quality 15-jewel lever movement which is currently running well and keeping good time, with both winding and hand-setting smooth.  The movement bears the apple-&-arrow mark of the Fontainemelon factory and whilst I’ve not been able to ascertain the calibre, I think it might be 1144.

The enamel dial, with its blue 12 and black Roman numerals, is pristine.  The minutes are marked by tiny gold dots and the very fine hands are of blued steel.

The case, which is approximately 27mm across, is hinged, front and back, both sides closing tightly.  There are hinged strap loops to take the strap and both are fully functional.  The winding crown is of the old style and in good condition.  The case itself has no serious marks other than a single scratch across the back, quite remarkable considering the watch is coming up for 100 years old.

Both the glass (UB) and the soft leather strap are new.
