This copy a presentation copy from the author. It appears the recipient later presented it to his grand daughter according to the second inscription.

A nice copy with light wear; most of the gilt lettering on spine is still intact with only a little bit of flaking at the top of the upper letters. Book is firm and tight. Still crisp inside. Although not Hayden's first survey into the area, it was the first that was federally funded.  The mountain man Jim Bridger served as the guide and the artist Thomas Moran and photographer William Jackson were also members. Their work inspired Congress as well as the public to push for the park's creation.

I HAVE AND HAVE HAD OTHER COPIES OF THIS BOOK. THIS COPY LACKS 5 FOLDING MAPS AND 2 PLATES OF GRASSHOPPERS. I have compared this copy to my other copies and there is no sign of any pages, plates or maps being removed. My other copies have 5 folding maps in the interior and 2 plates of grasshoppers located toward the end. My best guess is that this copy was bound without the maps and plates but that is only a guess.
