What is a Ignition Coil:

An ignition coil is a key component in a vehicle's ignition system. Generating thousands of volts, the ignition coil sends energy in the form of an electric spark to the spark plugs. This spark is what is used to ignite the air and fuel mixture and start the engine and keep it running. 

How to Replace the Ignition Coil:

1. Disconnect negative terminal from the battery 
2. Locate the ignition coil
3. Unbolt the ignition coil
4. Clip the wiring harness into the ignition coil and push the ignition cables onto the posts
5. Reinstall the negative terminal on the battery 

How to do When Malfunctions Occur:

When malfunctions occur in the ignition coils and their circuitry ,Check that the spark occurs. If the spark does not occur ,go to the four steps as follows .

1. Check the wirings and the connectors between the engine ignition coils and the ECU.
2. Check the engine ECU.
3. Check the wirings and the connectors between the engine ignition coil and the ECU
4. Check the wirings and the connectors of all ignition coils.

Tips:

When replacing spark plug wires or coil wires, it is best to place a small amount of dielectric grease in the wire's boot. This will make removal of the wire much easier as well as protect the wire from moisture. The grease also makes sliding the new wire boots onto the terminals much simpler.
