DESCRIPTION

Both volumes are fourth edition copies and revised by Thomas Roscoe, who was William Roscoe's son.

Leo the Tenth was head of the Catholic Church and ruler of the Papal States of Italy from 1513 until his death in 1521. He was born into the prominent political and banking Medici family of Florence. 

Both volumes have a frontispiece and are richly illustrated throughout the text.


CONDITION

In full red calf binding. Externally with the spines being marked and a little faded and with some marks and wear to the boards. There is a bookplate for Herbert Vaughan to both pastedowns and the front free endpaper of volume one. There are some pencil markings throughout both volumes. Internally, firmly bound with bright pages with spots to the first few pages of both volumes.
