“Newport Rebels” was a musicians festival given “in protest” to the Newport Jazz Festival in 1960. The musicians, organized by Charles Mingus and Max Roach, felt that accomplished musicians were not given proper exposure by the established Newport Jazz Festival. The Rebel Festival was held at the same time at Cliff Walk Manor. This LP is the only testament of the festival recorded. (3 live tracks, 2 studio tracks, one feat.
