For sale are 30 organically grown Red Japanese sweet potato slips. This variety has red skin and creamy whitish-yellowish flesh that is rich, sweet, and a bit drier than the regular orange varieties. We actually prefer it, and in our experience gathered from growing them in Central Florida, this variety does far better than the typical varieties. In addition to the tubers formed at the plant’s base, the majority grow along the vines where they have rooted themselves in the soil. The year we planted and harvested the most potatoes yielded a total of over 200 pounds!

Unfortunately, we do have sweet potato weevils. There is a chance that the cuttings could transfer them to your yard. The cuttings will be inspected for weevil entry holes, but just wanted customers to be aware about that situation before purchasing.

You will receive your cuttings wrapped in a moist paper towel. They may look a little yellow from shipment, but they will revive. You may plant them straight away by simply sticking them a third or so into the soil and watering adequately. Or, you may stick them in a cup of water where they will begin to grow roots if you either do not have the planting space prepared yet or are busy. If you place them in water, though, make sure to change it occasionally, as they will not do as well in stale water.

Insure that they do not receive too much nitrogen, as this will cause leaf development only. Shipped first class. Happy growing!
