Tribal Carved Buffalo Horn Container for Lime  Powder- TIMOR

Exquisitely crafted, this beautiful container for lime powder, accompanied by a calendar and a small spoon, is entirely made from water buffalo horn and adorned with glass bead pendants.

The container, roughly shaped like an inverted cone with four faces, showcases a surface intricately engraved with motifs depicting a man-crocodile on the front and back, and a crocodile on the two sides. The cap is sculpted to represent an anthropomorphic head with a monkey perched atop, gripping the head firmly with both hands and feet.

Dangling from the container's neck are a delicate slender spoon and a calendar, consisting of a pierced oval tablet threaded with a cord, along with beads and a small horn head. A daily tool in the Timorese tribal world, this container stands out as one of the most intricate pieces I have ever encountered—a small masterpiece.
