Luis Barragan (1902-1988) is one of Mexico's leading architects.
His style is both modern and reflective of Mexico's lyrical climate,
with its vivid pink and red colors, sculptural wall compositions,
and bold use of water to anticipate landscape architecture.
In 1980, he received the Pritzker Prize, the most prestigious award in the world of architecture.
This book features five of his houses, including Barragan's own residence,
which was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2004.
While most photographs of architect-designed houses are taken immediately after their completion,
this book is composed of a selection of photographs taken by architect Yutaka Saito,
who has been fascinated by Barragan's architecture for 20 years and has been exploring it again in Mexico.
The key to deciphering the secret of its beauty is shown in the caption.
(Captions provide the key to deciphering the secrets of their beauty, in Japanese and English)
