DESCRIPTION

Volume IV from this fascinating and detailed naval history of Great Britain, written in the mid eighteenth century. Containing biographical sketches of numerous admirals and commanders, including Sir Peter Warren, Admiral Edward Vernon, Rt. Hon. Ed. Boscawen, and more. Also including accounts important British discoveries of numerous parts of the world. 

Volume IV in particular deals with the naval history of Great Britain from 1741 to 1761. 

The first edition of this scarce work. 

Illustrated with five engraved plates, collated and complete. 

Containing a contemporary ink inscription to the front free-endpaper, dated 1769.

CONDITION

In contemporary quarter calf binding, with marbled boards. Externally, significant shelf wear and fading to the boards, and rubbing to the spine, joints, and extremities. Containing a contemporary ink inscription to the front free-endpaper, dated 1769. Internally, hinges are starting, though remaining binding is firm. Pages contain a few spots and handling marks, but are otherwise generally clean.
