I am selling my Ollech & Wajs Selectron
Computer chronograph. As you can see from the photos it's in absolutely
wonderful condition. It functions perfectly and keeps decent time.
Please bear in mind I have taken the photos in macro mode and under a
bright light source to exaggerate any minor flaws.
These Selectron Computer chronographs were made by O&W in the 1960s
and whilst very similar at first glance there were a few slightly
variations as O&W used 2 or 3 different handsets and 2 or 3 ever so
slightly different bezels. This version uses the all metal hands with
the the lume divided minute and hour hands. Matching hands were also
used on the running second and 30min chrono counter sub dials as well as
the main seconds chrono hand. This is the “ALT TIME” printed bezel,
most bezels didn’t have this text. These usually housed a 17 Jewel
Valjoux 7733 movement and this chronograph feels and functions exactly
like previous watches using 7733s I have used. I don’t have the correct
tool to open the caseback so I have not risked trying to open it. The
chronograph functions as it should and runs through it’s 30min counter.
Both chrono hands reset back to their respective vertical positions. The
timekeeping is decent, it runs about 30-40 seconds a day fast for me.
After 8-10 careful winds it usually gives me a good 10-12 hours of
running time. I never wind a vintage manual wound watch more than 10
times per wind as to not risk overwinding. The time can be set from the
crown. I am unaware of previous service history.
The dial looks absolutely fantastic with evenly patinaed lume hour
markings and the dial printing is still lovely and crisp. The crystal is
again in wonderful condition with no visible cracks. The bezel rotates
bi-directionally. I have placed the watch on a new rubber Tropical
strap.
All in all this is an absolutely fantastic example of a Selectron
Computer. Whilst this watch is running and functioning as it should It’s
always worth taking into consideration a service with any new vintage
watch you buy.
