This is a lovely, genuine vintage condition 1974 Everyman paperback edition of Mrs Gaskell's biography The Life of Charlotte Bronte.

First published in 1857 just two years after Charlotte's death, this warm and empathetic biography was written by Elizabeth Gaskell who had known Charlotte Brontë in life.  A reprint of the original, unexpurgated first and second editions of 1857.

The Everyman's Library was an early attempt to bring cheaply priced but beautifully presented literary classics within reach of less well-off readers.  "The Life" was first publish by Everyman in this edition in 1908, and in Everyman paperback in 1971.  This is a 1974 reprint with a cover illustration by Gwen Tourret.

Nice tight binding and uncreased spine.  Discoloured cover with some markings from labels and bumping to the corners.  Nice honest vintage condition.
