The Red Badge of Courage, An Episode of the American Civil War by Stephen Crane, 1895

This edition published by Dent Dutton 1971, illustrated by Charles Mozley

Stephen Crane (1871-1900) published "The Red Badge of Courage" in 1895, and it was hailed as a masterpiece.  He became a war correspondent, and a friend of Joseph Conrad, and died of tuberculosis in Badenweiler in Germany.

Charles Mosley (1914-1991) taught at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, was an official War Artist in the Second World War.

The illustrations in this book have a kind of open boldness which reminds me of Charles Keeping, or Paula Rego.

Very good clean condition, but sadly lacking the original dustjacket.  Spine possibly a fraction faded, and a little dented at the bottom.  Pages crisp and clean, no sunning or foxing, just slightly dusty on the top edge.

I always use real photos of the book for sale, never stock images.  Photos form part of the description.

I always combine postage, so why not browse my shop?
