Covers are overall fairly clean and in good condition for age with some age and handling discolouration and various marks. Darker discolouration and some fading to spine. Board corners bumped and worn with small cloth losses. Board edges and spine sides worn and scuffed. Spine ends worn with small splits and losses. General rubbing to covers with surface scratches, indentations and small scuffs. Lettering and decoration to front still clear, crisp and bright with slight wear. Lettering and decoration to spine a little rubbed and slightly faded.
Pages of a pale cream, good quality paper are generally fairly clean, crisp and in good order for age. Age discolouration to margins and gutters, being darker to Frontispiece reverse and darker still to text block edges. Foxing and age marks throughout and to text block edges. Some handling marks. A few rough, hand cut page edges. Splits to a few page gutters. Significant gapping with completely loosened stringing to several gutters. Front free endpaper absent. Prize presentation label to inside front board. Text block corners bumped with wear to text block edges. Text block edges uneven (due to slackened binding) and protrude a little from boards.
No inscriptions, ownership details, colouring, scribble or writing.
Binding still holding but very loose in places (have shown 3 of the worst examples of the slackened binding) with significant slackening of board hinges.
Book is complete with no missing pages.

Overall in clean and good condition for an antiquarian book 128 years old.
An attractively bound volume with charming, finely detailed period illustrations.

I have given a critical opinion/assessment of this item with any faults which I personally expect to be mentioned, so that it should be as similar to expectations as is possible. I've provided several clear images, that are also enlargeable, to demonstrate the overall condition as well. Items are carefully and well packed (to avoid damage in transit) mainly with recycled packaging, and are priced at Royal Mail's cost for the packed weight and size. I add only 25p for new materials used (paper/labels/packing tape etc.) Ebay take a 12.8% cut from each listing P&P price, so as I want to keep postage prices as low as possible for buyers I end up actually making a loss on every postage charge. If package ever costs less to send than stated on listing, I automatically refund the difference.
Items are sent promptly, usually the next (working) day, or always within three days after payment is made. The time thereafter that it takes for arrival of package once dispatched is obviously due to the speed of Royal Mail and/or International Postal Carrier companies.
In addition to marking your item as dispatched, I also message you with relevant details. A Proof Of Postage receipt is obtained for every item sent so that compensation can be claimed from Royal Mail if ever necessary, so please contact me should item not be received by the estimated delivery date.
If any import/customs/duty fees are applicable they are the responsibility of the buyer.
