Charlotte Brontë's first novel, The Professor, under the pen name Currer Bell, was published with the help from her widower after her death. It was rejected by publishers during her lifetime, and much of the themes were reworked into her subsequent novel Villette. A gothic romance that tells the story of an English professor working in Brussels, based on the author's own experiences. Embossed border to front and back covers. Firm binding; wear to boards; binding tape to spine; lean to book; old water stain to bottom corners of many pages; toned pages; foxing throughout.
