PAYING CALCULATED SHIPPING USUALLY SAVES YOU MONEY AND THIS IS WHY:
You are going to pay for shipping whether the item is free shipping or not. If I want $10 for what I am selling I charge actual shipping charges to your zip code.
If I offer free shipping I add the price of shipping to my total cost of the item. How do I figure in the shipping? By getting the shipping cost to the zip code that is the farthest away from me.
EXAMPLE 1
2 pound package 12" x 12" x 12" from Cullman, Alabama 35055 to Blaine, Washington 98230
USPS Ground - $15.00
Priority - $17.05
I would add this cost of shipping to my $10.00 price and call it free shipping.
EXAMPLE 2
2 pound package 12" x 12" x 12" from Cullman, Alabama 35055 to Nashville, Tennessee 37027 (one state to my north)
USPS Ground - $9.85
Priority - $10.05
Because I have no idea where I might be shipping this package when I list it on eBay, I have to add in the higher cost of shipping to my price just in case it has to ship somewhere far away.
So why do I charge actual shipping charges?
1. Because I do not try to profit from over priced shipping charges.
2. It is not fair for a buyer close to me to have to pay the same cost of shipping as one would from Blaine, Washington.
3. I list a fair price for my products and it is simply easier not to have to do the math on every item to make sure I will profit from my sale. You know what you paid for the item and what you actually paid for shipping.
4. I strive to charge the least amount of shipping as possible so calculated shipping is a more fair and honest way to do this. Quite frankly, I feel that free shipping can sometimes be a bit deceiving to the buyer.
If I ship more than one item to the same address I charge the actual cost of shipping if they can be shipped together in the same package. I refund any overage that might have been over paid.
