This book follows the history and development of the William Reardon Smith & Sons shipping company in the heyday of South Wales tramp steamer activity. In 1920 there were 122 shipping companies in Cardiff alone. By 1963, the number of deep-sea ships owned locally was down to just six, four of them owned by the Reardon Smith Line.

Good pre-owned condition. No siginificant wear. All pages intact with no rips or creases. Book has suffered slight water damage at some point, as can be seen by blue staining along top edge of inside of dustjacket. Some pages, particularly photographic plates, were slightly sticking to each other, but these have been carefully separated, without causing further damage, and all pages now turn freely.
