Archimede Seguso Large 16”H Venetian Glass Vase Green Gold Excellent Condition.

This is a beautiful, large Archimede Seguso vase. Purchased in Italy in the 1950’s this is an exquisite example of one of the undisputed glass masters of the 20th Century, Archimede Seguso.

Murano Glass is an art, and like any other art form it has its famous geniuses, the real artists who had talent, vision, and persistence to move it forward. In the thousand years of its exis-tence, Murano Glass evolved from the humble beginnings of crammed Murano Island workshops of the middle ages to the international fame it enjoys to-day. Many famous Murano Glass artists brought about this evolu-tion, but one of the top names and the real revolutionary in the conservative world of Murano Glass was Archimede Seguso.

Lots of Murano Glass artisans work on the Island today and many family workshops have been proudly making Murano Glass for gener-ations, yet none is as famous as Seguso.

It all started with Archimede Seguso, born on the island of Murano in 1909.Shy, brilliant and quite distinguished, Archimede Seguso was a man of intellect, yet at the same time, he used the art of glass making to express himself.

Never following any model or predefined idea, Seguso would come up with different methods and techniques never seen before in glass making. It was this boldness mixed with his genius that positioned him as a reference point for other artists and artisans.

This is an increasingly rare piece to find as it is such a fine example of the artist’s work and highly prized by collectors.

This design with the pulled green ribs flecked with gold, has a beautiful, curved silhouette. Measuring 16”H it has a 26” circumference at its widest point and the opening is 8.5” across. This design is from the Coronati collection which was produced in 1949.

There are scratches on the bottom, consistent with use. There are some bubbles and an inclusion that is part of the manufacturing. There are no chips or cracks. It weighs about 11 pounds.

Substantial and heavy, this vase can accommodate large branches yet due to the artistry in its creation, maintains a light and airy feel.

Truly a rare and exquisite piece of glass!
