An authentic antique Victorian long black skirt with inbuilt underskirt. The outer layer is a heavy black crepe fabric with a deep ruffle at the hem, and is trimmed with a narrow ruffle of black silk. The waistband of this outer layer is attached to the waistband of the underskirt, which is embroidered in gold with the makers name, but all that I can make out is '& Sons'. The underskirt is made of a black glazed cotton fabric and is finished at the hem with a band of the heavy crepe fabric. There is an interior pocket near the hem of the underskirt.

The skirt is fastened with press studs at a side opening, and 2 tape ties. There are also some hook closures on the waistband.

The waist measures 24 inches and the length from the waist to hem is approximately 42 inches.

The skirt is in used antique condition. There are some small holes in the outer skirt but most of them are hidden in the folds of the fabric. The hooks on the waistband are untidy, and at the bottom of the side opening there is a tear in the fabric (see last photo). Despite these flaws, the skirt is in strong condition and still wearable.
