Wow! What a Year! Thinking back to the time I spent with that 87 year old collector, who would have imagined all the fantastic people his enormous collection of vintage tubes would put me in touch with. I thank you all!
It's been a year of investment and learning as well. How else am I going to guarantee my new friends in Russia or Scotland or Boston will be happy with the tubes I send them? They show me photos of these giant megaliths of amplification, or demure, stately works of art, bearing the names Marantz, Fisher and Harmon Kardon, or sizzling hot restorations of antique radios and jukeboxes. And these new friends count on me to provide an integral part of their masterpiece. So.. I've been building a bit of my own.
Building on my inventory. Building on my workloft's processing and testing capabilities. And building on my knowledge of specifically what these tubes do with the signals they receive, even though my quantum theory buddies tell me these electrons aren't even there unless I'm looking at them! Well, I guess I'm looking at them now. From cathode to anode, through wonderful screens of minute technology invented over a century ago.
And then there's The Hunt. I'm searching up and down the East Coast, as far west as Kentucky right now for Premium Collections. Like Paul and Mike's collection from Buffalo, NY. Two friends since childhood, they loved taking apart/putting back together all sorts of electroncs. From TV's to organs. Getting in a bit of trouble for running wire on the utility poles between their two houses. Building a Tesla Coil! And they did it in the 1960's when they were both fifteen! Now, they're a bit older, but their collection remained in their homes for decades. Untouched. Perfect.
Please note: If the tube is offered in it's original box it is being offered as new old stock, unless otherwise stated. If the tube is without it's box, it may have come from one form of vintage electronics or another, or it may be new old stock whose box has disintegrated or been discarded. I would have to say it was used though, with good test results; again, unless stated otherwise.
