1923 1st Edn. THE DEFENCE OF LONDON 1915 – 1918 A Rawlinson WW1 ILLUSTRATED Book

1923 1st Edition – THE DEFENCE OF LONDON 1915 – 1918 By A. Rawlinson – WW1 Hard Back Book.

This has 10 Illustrated plates, including a fold-out map. They are all present and accounted for. With an introduction by Admiral Sir Percy Scott.

Published by Andrew Melrose (Ltd.) and printed in Great Britain by Billing and Sons, Ltd., Preston.

Colonel Rawlinson wrote this book on the defence of London against attacks from the air by Germany.

There is no dust jacket.

The blue cloth bound boards and spine are intact, but have patches of fading, several small marks, bumped corners, some wear, small rips in the cloth at the bottom of the spine and bottom corners and a gentle lean to the spine. There is gilt lettering on the front board and the spine.

Inside, the pages are lightly tanned, with darker tanning on the endpapers. They are thick in consistency. There is light foxing, small marks and light creases on the pages. Some of the edges of the pages are uneven and roughly cut, but this is highly likely due to the construction of this book and is all part of its beautiful history. The page leaves were probably uncut and then severed with a pen knife. Other than the pages being roughly cut, there are no rips to them. There is, however, a little rubbing to the edge of the front pastedown. On the front flyleaf there is a pen inscription which states “Given to animal by Firebird. April 5/4/25/”. There is also an ink numerical stamp on the front free endpaper and a little ink on the front pastedown. In addition, there is some pencil written on page 146 and a small stamp imprint on the back pastedown. There is a small crack in the binding between a handful of pages (including between the back pastedown and back free endpaper), but the pages are all secure. There are no loose or missing pages. All 267 pages are present. Please study the photos carefully as to the condition of this book, as they do form part of the description

This measures approximately 19.5 cm by 12.5 cm and 3.6 cm wide. It weighs approximately 420 grams.
