This is an Authentic Edition – part of a series of the works of Charles Dickens in 21 volumes. This is volume 8. It is printed from the Edition that was carefully corrected by the author in 1867 and 1868. This edition was published by Chapman & Hall, Ld., London. It was also published in New York by Charles Scribner’s Sons. It was printed by William Clowes And Sons, Limited, London and Beccles.

There is no dust jacket.

The cover is made of vibrant green cloth bound boards and spine, with stunning gilt lettering and decorations on the front board and spine. The cover is intact, robust and in a good state for a book of which is over 120 years old, although there are some small marks, bumped corners, some wear (more-so to the edges and corners) and small rips in the cloth at the corners and the top and the bottom of the spine.

Inside, the pages are not uniform in their edging and roughly cut, but this is most likely to do with the construction method when this book was made and is all part of its beautiful history. The page leaves were probably uncut and then severed with a pen knife. This has left the occasional small rip to the page edges. Other than this, there is just a small rip to the side of the front pastedown. The pages are lightly tanned, which is consistent with the age of the book, and there is foxing present on the pastedowns, endpapers, preliminary pages, and last few pages. The remaining pages are in an overall neat and clean state, with only occasional small marks or light foxing and only the very occasional light crease.  On the front flyleaf there are some pen inscriptions, one dated 1902 and the other dated 1950. There are no further pen or pencil marks inside this book. Between a number of pages there are very minor cracks to the gutter, but the pages are all secure and there are no loose pages. There are no missing pages and so all 511 pages are present. Please study the photos carefully as to the condition of this book, as they do form part of the description.

This measures approximately 21.4 cm by 15.4 cm and 5 cm wide. It weighs approximately 793 grams.
