DESCRIPTION

The uncommon first UK English language edition of Mariam by Ennio Flaiano in the original publisher's cloth binding and unclipped dust wrapper.

Translated by Stuart Hood. 

Originally names 'Tempo di Uccidere'. the novel is set in Ethiopia during the Italian invasion of the 1930s, and tells the story of an Italian man's disastrous acts and the guilt he experiences in the aftermath. It is one of the few modern Italian novels which deals with the misdeeds of Italian colonialism in East Africa. 

The novel was awarded the Stega Prize in 1949, the most prestigious Italian Literary Award. 


CONDITION

In the original publisher's cloth binding and unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, smart. There is some minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. There is some spotting to the fore edge. The dust wrapper has some wear, with a few small open tears and some creasing to the extremities, and lights spotting and age toning. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with the odd spot and light age toning.
