The Super Famicom Box was available to hotels and commerce wanting to offer video games without having to change cartridges - the console was sold directly to the hotels and commerce.
Similar to the Famicom Box which was released in the 1980s, the Super Famicom Box was primarily designed for a pay-per-minute model. Many Super Famicom Boxes were delivered with a coin box option forcing customers to pay ¥100 to be able to play for a few minutes. That said, many hotels didn’t want to have to collect the coin in each room, so this option was mostly overlooked by customers. Instead, the hotel would put the console on free play either for a fixed cost or as part of the cost of the room.
What games come with it?
There are 5 games that are included on two cartridges and fully playable on the system...
PSS-61:
Super Mario Kart
Star Fox
Super Mario Collection
PSS-62:
New 3D Golf Simulation: Waialae no Kiseki
Super Mahjong 2: Honkaku 4 Nin Uchi!
What is the console's condition?
Actually, this Super Famicom Box is in a pretty good condition which is quite rare nowadays. The system is fully operational in terms of powering on and game playability.
Cosmetically, it is also quite good but with some understandable blemishes after being released 30 years ago. There are scratches to the top of the box as well as some issues with the front panel which is famously fragile...
As you can see from the photos there has been some repair work done to the upper left corner of the panel and the upper right corner of the panel (the opposite side) has also got some small cracks, which would become worse during transit.
How will you pack this?
Obviously, I will do my best to pack this system as carefully as possible to prevent damage during transit. I have used a lot of bubble wrap and multiple layers of newspaper packaging inside a strong cardboard box. International shipping can be quite rough at times, so please only bid if you understand that some damage could occur during transit. If something does happen, the parcel will be insured so there is room to discuss that with Japan Post and the Post Office in your country. Please be aware that damage may occur.
