A close relative to the Lychee tree,but much larger, stronger and more cold tolerant. a superior variety of longan, the 'Kohala', from Hawaii.The fruit is large for the species, the seed is small, fruit is deliciously sweet.and flesh is aromatic, The tree produces fairly good crops in midsummer.Longans are highly valued in South east Asia. They are hardier and quicker growing.
Grow the longan tree in full sun in the warmest, driest area of the garden.Longan tree need full sun, but young trees must be protected from heat, frost and high winds.
Longan tree can adapt to a wide range of soil but prefer rich, well-drained soil.
Water the young longan tree regularly to keep the soil moist.
Fertilize the longan tree of 14-14-14 every eight weeks.(except winter)
Fruit should ripen between late summer and winter.
