JOHN WILLIS’ SCREEN WORLD

1991 FILM ANNUAL

This Volume 42 of SCREEN WORLD has a comprehensive record of Hollywood films released between January 1 and December 31, 1990.

On the Superman cover it says there are 1000 photographs. I didn’t count them but I believe the boast.

This volume was dedicated to Frank Sinatra who is honored on the first two pages.  (See picture.)

Opposite the contents page there’s is a full-page photo of Glenn Close and Jeremy Irons in “Reversal of Fortune.

The two pages of pictures of scenes from “Batman" exemplifies the way movies of the year are depicted in this annual.  Every film represented in the book has a page or two of photos plus cast list, name of producer, director, music.

In all my listings for Screen World (and I have many on eBay now) I have one photo taken from the pages featuring “Promising New Actors” of the previous year. Those pictured for that honor in this issue: Annette Bening,  Edward Clements, Harry Connick Jr., Marcia Gay Harden, Tony Goldwyn, Harley Jane Kozak, Mary McDonnell, Stephen Mailer, Mary-Louise Parker, Campbell Scott, Annabella Sciorra and Wesley Snipes. The page I photographed has the first four of these named.

The Academy Awards portion has photos of 1990 Oscar winners (presented in 1991).  Winners shown full page: Jeremy Irons in “Reversal of Fortune,”  Kathy Bates inMiseryJoe Pesci in “Goodfellas,” and Whoopi Goldberg inGhost.”

There is a section on foreign films, obituaries and biographies.

The index is fabulous, listing all pages that actors appear on.

Book has 268 pages and measures about 6 1/2 by 9 inches.

Original price of the book in 1991 was $40.00.

“Discarded by the Michigan City Library” is stamped on the first and last pages. The library's address is stamped on the first page as well as the date Dec 05 1991,  There’s a sticker of the library catalog number on the title page.  The same numbers are written in pencil on the title page. The book has been well preserved with a clear cover protecting the dust jacket.  There are a few pieces of clear tape on the inside flaps of the clear cover.  If it weren’t for the extraneous stampings and stickers this book would look brand new.
