These heirloom bulbs are referred to as corms. The bulbs grow small. That is the natural way they grow. They are small bulbs that grow a large plant. The size of an acorn maybe a little bigger maybe a little smaller. The bulbs are small but they pack a powerful punch. The plants grow 30 to 36 inches tall and have a spread of 12 to 18 inches. Montbretias make good fresh cut flowers and florist use them in commercial flower arrangements.


Crocosmia “Prince of Orange” features bright orange blooms in different shades. They bloom in summer through fall. The blooms attract hummingbirds and butterflies.


Planting:

The bulbs can be planted in a container or in the ground any time of year except when it may frost. They prefer full sun. The greenery grows well in part shade, but will not bloom as well as they do in full sun. The plants are drought resistant. They grow in almost any kind of soil. This plant can be grown in zone six through nine. They can be left in the ground all year and will die back in the winter and return in the spring. You can separate them in the spring or fall by digging them up and spacing them 6” inches apart when replanting. They are quick multipliers. They are a fast grower and spreads quickly.


They are resistant to deer and rabbits. They are a very hardy plant.
