The Voyages Of The Morning Gerald Doorly 1916 Dutton 1st American

Published by Dutton 1916. Similar binding and collation to the British edition. Blue gray cloth, spine lettered and ruled in pale yellow, front cover with pale yellow border and lettering, and emperor penguin with chick on ice. Bottom edge uncut. 20 plates including frontispiece, 15 leaves bearing 18 photos and 2 drawings, and 4 leaves music. Plus one folding map.

Condition very good. Spine a bit faded, front end page with neat former owner signature in ink, light foxing on title page and map. Small chip on upper spine. Binding strong. Small book shop label on obverse of frontispiece. Internally clean. Overall a solid and attractive copy. And according to Rosove, scarce.

Doorly was third officer on Scott’s relief ship “Morning” in 1902-3.

This book is being sold from my private Antarctic library as I have replaced it with the first British edition.
