In the 1870's the Manhattan Brass Co. produced these student lamps for Tiffany and Co.
You often see the smaller size student lamps, but rarely do you come across the "Mammoth" size.
This lamp measures 29.5" tall and 27" wide.
Very heavy, with a weighted base--this weighs about 24 Lbs.
Etched on both sides of the lamp, on each socket shell, it reads: Manhattan Brass Co. N.Y. PAT'D May. 23. 76. -- Dec. 25. 77. -- May 20. 79.

This lamp is NOT marked for Tiffany and Co. however, it is exactly the same, in all respects as the lamps that were sent to Tiffany's
Many different types of lamp shades would be offered for these lamps--and if you are a collector I'm sure you've seen the amazing favrile shades that Tiffany used for these lamps--this lamp does come with two period cased lamp shades--in the shade of light orange--they are pretty much perfect, with no visible chips or even flea bites--if you do not want the shades, I will take 400.00 off the price of the lamp--please let me know before purchasing if you just want the lamp with no shades.
The light orange shades have a 9.5" inside diameter, and do fit the brass rings on each side of the lamp.
The brass rings--used to hold the glass shades on each side--measure 9 7/8" with some room to spare inside the ring--approximately to 10.2"
*Please see the last two pictures for details.

There is one small dent on the back of the cannister--the front looks pretty much perfect.
*Please see pictures #20 through #23 for detailed pictures of the dent on the back, and also picture #3 for a close-up view of the front of the cannister.
Also  please understand that this lamp is over 150 years old, so there are some small imperfections here and there on the brass, however, overall I feel it's in excellent condition.
It has been electrified, but very modest modifications were done to the lamp--please see pictures #12 and #13 to see that the only change to the lamp was a small hole on the bottom grill of each socket stem in order to accommodate the electric cord.  The electric cord is fastened to the cannister with only thin wire, and the cords have been taped behind the back of the cannister--the cannister has NOT been drilled. You can see a close-up of the tape on the electrical cords in picture #10 and #11.

Don't miss out on your chance to obtain one the rarest antique student lamps ever produced, it could be years until you see another one of these on eBay!
