LIONEL TRAIN HOUSE
This 1:48 scale die-cast panel truck was modeled after an actual Lionel Train House delivery truck, which still exists today! It boasts exquisite details, including a weathered paint scheme with chrome accents, wide whitewall tires and a roof rack. Plus, it even has a license plate! The side panels are adorned with "Frenchie's Lionel Train House" lettering reminiscent of a time when signage and advertisements were painted by hand.The real 1946 Chevy panel truck, which this replica was modeled after, was purchased by A.J. French in 1947. He used it as a delivery truck for the Lionel Train House, which was located near Seattle, Washington. During that time, the truck had a two-tone green paint scheme with black fenders and running boards.
However, in later years, the truck was repainted in a brown-maroon color with hand-painted lettering. Sadly, French's Lionel Train House closed during the 1960s. For over two decades, the delivery truck sat inside the vacant shop until it was moved to a makeshift garage. It was virtually abandoned until the late 1980s when the owner began servicing it (based on the receipts found inside the glovebox). Once it was up and running, the restored Chevy was sold to a buyer in Utah.
Stories like these inspire us to honor the heritage of Lionel trains and hobby shops from the glory days of model railroading. In fact, we spend countless hours working with our engineers to make sure every day detail is accurate. That includes everything from the width of the whitewall tires to the look of the ladder at the top. We are so proud of how it turned out!
