Part of a huge collection of Victorian sheet music which I purchased recently. Do check my shop and auction listings and consider buying more than one to save shipping costs.

“O, come with me to the fountain, love” was a "teetotal ballad" written and composed by Henry Walker.  The 26.4cm by 34.5cm cover has a highly detailed chromolithograph illustration depicting St. Sepulchre's Fountain, the first public drinking fountain to be erected in London. The font was paid for by philanthropist Samuel Gurney in 1859 and proved a huge hit with the public with around 7,000 users a day. The original design, with Norman-style stonework surround, can be seen on the music sheet, attracting a huge crowd. It was set in the wall surrounding St. Sepulchre's at Newgate Church on Holborn Hill. It was moved in 1867 when the Holborn Viaduct was built, then reinstated back in its original position but in a simpler form in 1913. See my last image for a screengrab from Google showing the identical view as it is today (that photo does not form part of this auction). The music was published by Ashdown & Parry, who traded under that name from 1860 to 1882.  In superb condition with only the most minor signs of wear and complete with all five pages of music.

*NB: This sheet was a reference copy discovered in the archive  the publisher Edwin Ashdown.

Shipping:  Please take a look at the shipping options offered, which are based on my estimate of the selling price.  If an item sells for less than expected I may be able to reduce the shipping cost. Equally, if an item sells for considerably more than expected then you might wish to boost the insurance or the depth of packaging, which will increase the shipping cost.  I am always happy to combine items to reduce the shipping costs for you, but please note that when multiple items reach a high total value I may ask you to insure the package. If you want a service not stated, such as first class or surface mail, please ask for a quote. In all cases please discuss with me before making your payment. The maximum possible level of insurance on items sent overseas with Royal Mail is £250.  If the total value of contents exceeds this figure then you will have to accept the risk of sending the item(s), or choose an alternative courier.
