This Barrios Urtext Edition is the first ever set of works by guitarist-composer Agustin Barrios edited and published in Paraguay and timed to be released during Paraguay’s bicentennial celebrations in 2012. The edition is unique in that it is also the first of any editions of Barrios’ repertory employing as source material Barrios’ original manuscripts -- housed today in the Cabildo Museum in Paraguay. Thus, readers and users of this work are privy to an edition unaltered by editors, musicologists, and industry specialists who invariably change some aspect of the original. The edition contains 10 works taken from 10 original, signed scores, and also reproduces five facsimiles of these placed alongside the transcriptions, useful for comparative studies. Barrios Urtext Edition also provides forwards by North American Barrios historian Carlos Salcedo Centurion and Paraguayan guitar legend Felipe Sosa, founder of the first classical guitar school in Paraguay in 1977.  Legendary Barrios biographer and musicologist Richard Stover provides concise analyses of the works. Another first is the inclusion of a chronological listing of Barrios editions placed in the back of the book, covering a span of nearly 100 years and some 50 editions published in 10 countries, along with images of their covers. This unique feature makes the edition a type of reference tool for understanding the evolution of Barrios editions throughout the world. The text is printed in both English and Spanish.
