The author, Maurice Allward, worked for Hawker Siddeley Aviation.

Though now probably more of historical interest, this book was one of the 'modern industries series' designed to give young people an insight into industry by supplying historical and up to date information at the time.

Written by an expert with first hand knowledge of the subject, the book would have been an invaluable source as reference and as a  possible help in selecting a career.

A very readable book, recalling many aspects of the aircraft industry during what was probably the golden age for much of the British aircraft industry. There are chapters on aircraft at work, the aircraft builders, and the designing, building and testing of aircraft.

Other chapters are entitled 'Keeping aircraft flying' and 'At the airport'.
