Welcome
to The Speaker Port!
Up for a sale is a set of replacement speaker terminal plates for the Pioneer SX-850 vintage stereo receiver. This will allow you to replace the original speaker terminals with more modern banana plug terminals for both the A and B outputs. This conversion kit improves the look and wiring options for your 850. Once installed, it really looks spectacular and completely stock. The panel is constructed from PLA material using 3D Printing technology. It is rigid and is able to withstand the abuse that the terminals can experience. You can re-purpose your original mounting hardware. Ring terminals are recommended to attach the original internal wires onto this new terminal plate. (Ring terminals not included). You can solder the internal speaker wires directly to the back of the terminals but care must be taken not to overheat them. One other thing to mention, in one of the pictures, it shows a black plastic spacer in the rear of the terminal; i no longer install these as they are really not needed for anything. If you want me to included them, let me know and I will put them bag with the hardware...otherwise, I normally pitch them.
NOTE: Installation of this part does require certain skills and competency using tools and a soldering iron. If you are not comfortable doing this work yourself, take it to a electronics shop and they should be able to do the work for you. We have developed this item on an actual SX-780 so fitment is guaranteed. The SX-850 is a vintage piece of equipment and as a result, you accept full responsibility/liability for the work required to install these parts in your system.
Installation
Instructions
You will need some basic tools/materials, such as a Philips
screw driver, wire cutters/strippers, soldering iron/solder and the above mentioned ring terminals. Remove the
top cover of the receiver. If needed, loosen the back panel of the unit so that you can get more room to work behind the speaker terminals and make removing/installing the old/new terminals easier. Remove the screws/nuts holding on the existing speaker terminals. Put these aside as you will re-use them to install the new plate. Pull back the original terminals and install the new terminal plates. Once it is installed, snip off one wire at a
time from the original terminals, attach a ring terminal to it and secure it to the posts of the
new one. Keep the orientation exactly as
it was with the originals. Note: we do recommend soldering the ring terminals to the internal speaker terminal wires, but it is not absolutely necessary to do. If you have a good crimping tool that will securely mount the ring terminals, then that is fine as well.
WARNING: If you choose to solder the wires directly to the back of the new terminal plates, DO NOT overheat the back end terminals. Nothing more than a normal 40W soldering iron should be used and even so, make sure you are proficient in the right procedure for soldering wires onto terminals such as these. If the screw terminals gets too hot, it could melt the plate of the outside terminal spacers and/or warp the screw down wire nuts.
