This piece was never meant for Ebay. It was being appraised by UK auction houses for sale in one.

However due to the nature of this piece, auction houses are giving different opinions as to exactly what it is.

The issue here is that it is unmarked, and some auction houses say it wouldn't have left the factory unmarked, whereas other experts say that 'most' Doulton was marked, implying some wasn't.

The opinions we have gathered that say 'it wouldn't have left the factory unmarked' are as follows,

1) A reject. It has no flaws, but maybe something didn't turn out as wanted? This expert's opinion we disagreed with because it would have still been marked before it was fired.

2) A test piece. We don't know if Doulton ever did unmarked test pieces?

3) A piece that went home with someone from the factory? Odd, but that's what they said.

Potterys did make test pieces. We found out that Moorcroft did. They are a company that go back to this era. So it is reasonable to assume it was common practice.

We ourselves have also sold Factory Error pieces (like our large gold Slaters Patent piece with a column of flowers that had been forgotten to paint) as there is a demographic of collectors looking for these because they are one of a kind, unique pieces. Perhaps this piece is simply a Factory Error.

Auction houses refused to put other experts opinions in their catalogue when we asked, so they will under sell it. We have decided to sell it privately on Ebay, where every opinion can be seen about this piece.

Who it is by is a mystery. The fourth photo we found stated it was by George Tabor. It was the closest we could find stylistically. Sadly this was a few years ago, so it has since been removed.

As it stands, a good quality piece. Some Doulton is not so good up close. This piece is very crisp and precise.

Height 30cm. A large statement decorators piece.

Condition is perfect.

All of our large Doulton vases have now sold to collectors around the world. Apparently this type of thing is coming back into fashion according to Ian on Bidding Room. This is our last piece available.

This is an old listing of ours, so we may go to auction with it soon. Please keep an eye out in the future if you are interested.
