This wooden gavel belonged to Frank O. Nishiguchi (July 23, 1929 - Sept 7, 2005), a well-known Japanese-American who was a government and business leader in the state of Utah. He was also one of the earliest Japanese Nikkei coverts to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The gavel has "Frank O. Nishiguchi President Utah Farm Bureau Federation" engraved on a metal band. The gavel's length is approximately 10.25 inches long.

Frank O. Nishiguchi was President of the Utah Farm Bureau, a County Commissioner, General Manager of the Bear River Water Conservancy District, Co-founder and Director of Bear River Valley Hospital, and board member of the American Farm Bureau. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in various leadership positions. As one of the earliest Japanese-American converts to the church, Nishiguchi was a pioneer in helping to spread the LDS message to the Japanese people in both the U.S. and Japan.
