Kantha goes back centuries and it was originally used to stitch together old pieces of cloth to make warm blankets and garments. Today kantha is used mainly for decorative purposes because of unique character and beauty. 

Kantha is a fast, stop and start stitch, and it is not mean to look like stitching done on a machine, so if you find some very short loose thread ends in the stitching, these are not flaws but the nature of the kantha.
