***********FOR PARTS/REPAIR - Although the automatic movement keeps accurate time over an approximate 30 hour power reserve period and both the day and date wheels roll over as they should, the dial has edge chipping/peeling which has resulted in loose pieces of paint moving freely around.  It's important that these loose pieces of paint be removed prior to wearing this watch so they don't get into the movement through the day and date windows while it's running.  Given this and considering the movement's unknown service history a complete overhaul is required.***********

This seldom seen vintage 1970's Clinton has a glossy black dial that shows moderate wear with chipping/peeling around its edges which has resulted in loose pieces of paint moving freely around.  These loose pieces of paint need to be removed prior to wearing this watch.  The lume on the dial and hands, which remains intact and emits a quick burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully.  The metal hands show oxidation.  In my humble opinion the big balloon seconds hand adds oodles of character.  The black bezel, which shows wear and rotates stiffly bidirectionally, presents nicely.  The all stainless steel lugholes case shows honest wear with minor signs of oxidation.  The outside of the case back is stamped "ALL STAINLESS - STEEL - ANTIMAGNETIC" with "100%" followed by "WATERPROOF TESTED,""20 ATMOSPHERES" and "4320" stamped in the center.  The inside of the case back is stamped "CLINTON WATCH CO." followed by "GERMANY."  The crystal needs to be replaced.

The 25 jewels "PATENTED" and "CLINTON WATCH CO" stamped PUW 1463 automatic movement with quickset date is clean, keeps accurate time and both the day and date wheels roll over at approximately 12 am.  The quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 19 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached.  After recently winding the non-screwdown crown 39 full revolutions the movement had an approximate 30 hour power reserve.  The crown winds smoothly.  Given that loose pieces of paint are moving freely around the dial which need to be removed prior to wearing this watch and considering the movement's unknown service history (there are no visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or on the movement) a complete overhaul is required.

This watch measures approximately 38 mm excluding the crown, approximately 41 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs.  Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9.5 mm.  Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 12.5 mm.

Given that loose pieces of paint are moving freely around the dial which need to be removed and considering the movement's unknown service history a complete overhaul is required.  As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch.  Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time.  For this watch that time is now.  Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility.
