***********FOR PARTS/REPAIR - The Sicura stamped Baumgartner 158 31/7 automatic movement runs about 30 minutes slow by the end of its approximate 35 hour power reserve period when the watch is lying stationary on a flat surface. When it's moved at various angles the movement will occasionally and inconsistently stop. After winding the crown it's necessary to gently spin the watch face down on a soft, flat surface in order to jump-start the seconds hand. Both the day and date wheels roll over as they should. The crown winds smoothly. Given the issues mentioned a complete overhaul is required.***********
This vintage 1970's Cordura Sea-Gull has a near pristine blue satin "T SWISS MADE T" signed dial. Majority, if not all, of the imperfections seen appear to be on the crystal, not the dial. The lume remains fully intact and no longer glows after being exposed to bright light. The black fat font bezel shows wear and rotates bidirectionally with an appropriate amount of tension. The chrome-plated case shows honest wear and brassing. The outer edge of the case back is stamped "STAINLESS STEEL BACK WATER-RESISTANT SWISS MADE" with "BASE METAL BEZEL" stamped in the center. The crystal shows scratching and dust/debris on its underbelly.
The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss "SICURA SA" and "BREVETS" stamped Baumgartner 158 31/7 automatic movement with quickset date function runs strong (when lying flat), albeit slow, and both the day and date wheels roll over without issue. When moved at various angles the movement will occasionally and inconsistently stop. After winding the crown it's necessary to gently spin the watch face down on a soft, flat surface in order to jump-start the seconds hand. The quickset date function works flawlessly by moving the hands backwards. After recently winding the crown 39 full revolutions the movement lost about 30 minutes by the end of its approximate 35 hour power reserve period. The brassed, non-screwdown crown winds smoothly. Given the issues mentioned a complete overhaul is required.
This watch measures approximately 42 mm excluding the crown, approximately 45 mm including the crown and approximately 20 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 11 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 13 mm.
A complete overhaul is required. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility.
