Author Biography

Joanna Jackson has lived in Richmond for more than 18 years. She has a strong interest in local history, and in 2000 she wrote and produced an audio tour of Richmond town centre for the local tourist authority. She is a guide at the nearby Wetlands Trust. A keen photographer, her images have been used in cards, calendars and books. Her other titles for Frances Lincoln are A Year in the Life of Kew Gardens, A Year in the Life of Richmond Park, A Year in the Life of Richmond and A Year in the Life of Padstow, Polzeath and Rock.

6.9 million visitors come to Windsor each year for business or for pleasure with approximately 1 million people attending specific events in the Royal Borough each year There are over 300,000 visitors to Royal Ascot in the third week of June every year. Eton College '4th June' holiday celebrated on the Wednesday before the first weekend in June. The school has a high street gift shop and 15,000 members of Old Etonians Association. Windsor Castle listed as the most popular visitor attraction (55%) and the main reason for visiting the town (56%). Windsor Great Park visited by 17% (2009 Visitor Survey). There is a large gift shop at the Savill Building. Legoland Windsor had 1.8 million visitors in 2008.
