Fire Time

Publication: "First published in Great Britain in 1977 by Panther Books Ltd"

Font size: medium-small

The planet Ishtar has three suns: Bel, the "real" sun, the Life Giver. Ea, the Companion who warms the Ishtaran summers. Anu, the Demon Star. Mostly Anu is so far away that it is just a light in the Ishtaran sky. But once every thousand years it comes close. It is then that the barbarians must flee their scorched lands, and civilizations fall.
The natives call this Fire Time. Always before, its coming had meant the death of a civilization. But this time, the humans are here, and they have brought with them their magical technology. This time things could have been different. Too bad that the humans are suddenly faced with a war of their own, their own Fire Time.

Orbit Unlimited

Publication: "Published in 1976 by Panther"

Font size: medium-small

Orbit Unlimited contains four interconnected short pieces that form a loose-jointed novel of political maneuvering, philosophical debate and, of course, superior planetary adventure. The action opens onto an overpopulated and autocratic future Earth, whose government is sending off its final interstellar starship. It is decided that the crew will be a band of rebels the government is eager to get rid of, including one particularly dedicated spaceman, and the destination will be the marginally habitable planet, Rustum. Once there the men must fend for themselves. Rustum is revealed in meticulous, authentic detail: it is too large and the atmosphere too dense for the men to settle at sea level. They establish themselves, with great difficulty, on a high plateau above the clouds, and begin their new lives as colonists on a grim and none too hospitable planet.
