Miley Cyrus Is British Vogue’s June 2023 Cover Star

For June, Vogue’s eye is indeed travelling – to paraphrase the late, great Diana Vreeland – with an issue created on four continents, featuring trains, boats, cars, motorbikes, a bicycle, a bus, a donkey, a chic little Fiat 500 and a galaxy’s worth of star models showcasing the best of easy, gorgeous, sunshine-ready fashion.

What a jolt of joy. Photographer Nadine Ijewere travelled to Senegal with fashion director Julia Sarr-Jamois for a Chanel extravaganza, the fashion house having shown their most recent Métiers d’art collection in Dakar, with a spotlight on brilliant local talent. Elsewhere, Vogue takes to the roads and railways of Europe with photographer Oliver Hadlee Pearch; Dan Martensen pauses in Paris to photograph model Vittoria Ceretti; and Reven Lei captures seasonal looks against the beauty, space and unique magic of Sichuan, in southwestern China. Even our Trends section comes to us from Sri Lanka, as Nick Sethi photographs the latest key pieces, from perfect shirtdresses to maxiskirts.

And the travel doesn’t stop with fashion. Vogue has an exclusive audience with legendary Chilean author Isabel Allende at her home in northern California. Allende’s extraordinary new novel, The Wind Knows My Name, charts the twin timelines of two child refugees, one fleeing Nazi Germany, one arriving in Trump’s America. Having turned 80 last year, it’s thrilling to see her skill and compassion in full force. Meanwhile in Rome, Elly Schlein, rising star of Italian politics, offers some sentient pointers for how we all can better contribute to our societies, while in Exchanging Glances, we celebrate the best of South Korea’s skincare geniuses, their effect photographed beautifully by Cho Gi-Seok.

Last, but by no means least, live from New York, it’s Miley Cyrus. This month’s cover star travelled from her home in Los Angeles to meet photographer Steven Meisel and myself in Manhattan for two days of fashion, fun and hilarity. What a life Miley has led and how wonderful it is to see her having such a brilliant year. “Flowers”, her instantly classic anthem of self-love, has topped the charts week after week both here and in the States, and her fashion moves have never been chicer. Miley has been through it over the years and doesn’t do much press, so it’s a rare treat to have her speaking so candidly about her unique life. To top it all, her album Endless Summer Vacation couldn’t be a more perfect soundtrack for this sunniest of June issues. Enjoy.
