John L Stoddard's Lectures 1897-8, 12 VOL 1-10 Complete Plus Supplements 1 & 2 (1901-1902)  HC Illustrated

       This is a set of the complete original 10 volumes plus two supplemental volumes.  The original 10 volumes are 9" x 6 1/4" and are green cloth hardbound books with gilt lettering on the spine. They are printed on heavy white photo grade paper and contain many black & white photos taken by the author on his trips. 

 The two supplements (# 1 and #2) are the same size.  The hard covers are marbled paper with brown leather wrapped around the spine and at the corners.  They have a gilt top page edge and gilt lettering and decoration on the spine. They are printed on photo quality white paper. They have many black & white photos and four full page color photos in #1 and five in #2.

John Stoddard (1850-1931) started traveling around the world in 1874, and published Red-Letter Days Abroad in 1884. He then started lecturing about his travels in North America which were popular. He covered many subjects from nature to archeology. The lectures were published in book form (1897-1898) as John L. Stoddard's Lectures. These eventually became ten volumes and five supplements. This set has the first two supplements from 1901 and 1902.

      They weigh about 30 pounds without a box.

Condition:  These books are in excellent condition for their age.  Vol 1-10 have clean white, photo grade paper with no folds or tears.  The bindings are tight.  The green cloth covers have very minor wear at the corners and spine ends. Vol 1 has some rubbing at the top of its spine.  Vol 3 has a small spot on the front cover and a bump at the top edge. Vol 4 has a little wear along part of the back cover top edge.  Vol 7 has two tiny spots on the side page edge.  The two supplements have have white photo grade paper and are pristine inside.  The covers  have some minor edge and corner wear and tight bindings.  Please look at the 13 photos.
