·
The M-B W180 is an inline 6-cylinder saloon, coupe,
and convertible produced by M-B from 1954 until 1959.
·
It
was a more luxurious and up-scale version of the W120 model 180 with a wheelbase
stretched by 170 mm (6.7in), with 100 mm (3.9 in) was necessary to accommodate
the longer straight-six, M180 engine with other 70mm (2.8in) to increase the
legroom to rear-eat passengers.
·
The models associated with the W180
chassis code were the 220 that was succeeded in March 1956 by the 220 S (W180 II) which was externally almost identical
(new front bumper, addition of a chrome strip running along the front fenders
and doors), but had an upgraded version of the 2.2L inline-six.
·
A 2-door, four seats convertible
joined the line in July 1956, and a coupe version followed suit in
October 1956.
·
The fuel-injected 220 SE versions that officially bore the model
code W128 were introduced in
October 1958 and carried on until November 1960.
·
Until
October 1959, 55,279 220 S saloons and 3,429 convertibles and coupés were
built.
From
my point of view as a collector - It is a HQ,
well-executed, beauteous model INDEED!
