This book presents a history (with many detailed illustrations) of the Baldwin Locomotive Works from its inception in 1831 to the publication of the book in 1897.The second part of the book gives equal detail about the types of locomotives produced and the parts of the locomotives, including plates and diagrams of the parts, accompanied by  what are called the "code" names for the parts.  

A detailed Index from page 429 through 450 concludes the work.

This work is a "must" for anyone interested in narrow gauge railroads.  This volume is an original pressing.
