This listing is for a 2 inch Gamma Scintillation Detector designed for Radiation Detection. This probe has been newly manufactured in the iRad shop and lab. It is about 7 inches in length and weighs only 12 ounces. This Listing is for detector only, not the Ludlum survey meter.

The detector uses a 2 inch diameter by about 2 inch thick Bicron/Saint-Gobain BC-412 scintillator for Gamma Radiation Detection. I attach the scintillator to a high quality Philips XP5212 Photomultiplier Tube that includes a 130 MegOhm dynode chain. After assembly of the PMT and scintillator and end-cap, the detector is enclosed in a Black Polyolefin casing that is quite durable. The detector has been tested from 800v to 1200v and runs very well throughout that range of voltage  with excellent sensitivity at 900 to 1000 volts. The detector can easily be swapped out with GM probes that also run at 900 volts without changing your HV settings (on meters that support scintillation detectors). I recommend this detector if you have a Meter with adjustable HV like a Ludlum Model 3 and most all other Ludlum meters. 

Pictures show detection of Cs137, Co60 and a thorite mineral sample. The probe is shown operating on a Ludlum Model 18 at 900V as calibrated on my Ludlum 500 Calibrator. Voltage requirements on your meter and specific probe may vary. Operating Instructions and directions for adjusting HV and Plateau of detector are included in the sale.  These detectors are great for counting applications and survey use, not intended for gamma spectroscopy.
