NM or M- A near perfect, probably unplayed record. All its original shine. No spindle wear, scuffs or scratches. The picture sleeve will have no writing, tears, ring wear or dog ears.
EX Excellent. Very close to an “M” grade, but has been played and taken care of very well. Most of its original shine. Maybe the tiniest showing that it’s been on a spindle. The sleeve may have a bend but not a fold! No scuffs, writing or tears. A beautiful piece, worthy of framing.
VG+ Very Good Plus. Close to like new with only superficial signs of use that doesn't affect play. Only well cared for records will grade out to VG+. Will satisfy all but the most demanding collector. This grade may show a small amount of handling or spindle usage. The sleeve may have a few bends or buckles, It may have very minor ring indentations and slight color fading, but all in all a beautiful sleeve.
VG Very Good. A used, reasonable copy. There will be obvious signs of wear and the possibility of light surface noise between tracks or during quiet passages, but still quite nice. A great record for listening to or starting your collection.
G Good Significant wear and marks and usually quite noticeable surface noise. It may have light scratches or scuffs. The picture sleeve may have writing, serious ring wear, rips or tears. Good to own until you upgrade.
F Fair and P Poor. I will not list these. Use them for frizzbee’s.
